What a $10 haircut looks like

It’s been a few weeks since my last update, but that doesn’t mean things haven’t been going on. Quite the opposite. Anna has now completed her first trimester and the girls are excelling in school, both socially and academically. And Anna and I even celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary! Just in time for the next vacation The next school break is only two weeks away. As they do three months (or so) of school and a two week break, we are already fast approaching the end of term 2....

Trees and power lines

A bit of a different post this week. Not so much as ‘what’s going on’ but more of a ‘what weird stuff they get up to in Australia’. As I think I wrote once, the country is quite familiar as they speak English and culturally are quite “western”. But at the same time there are things that I find quite different despite the country feeling so familiar. It might also just be that climate and nature is so different here than what we have in Norway that they kind of have to do things differently as well....

Courage, cold weather and a Japanese festival

This week we experienced what can best be described as a cold snap. Temperatures were near freezing during the night and the grass was frosty on our way to school in the mornings. And for those of us who like to watch the electricity usage, this week had a noticeable bump in consumption. Not that it will last. Indeed, I am sitting in shorts this morning as I have walked to the library to write this post....

A time to celebrate!

Fall has definitely settled in here. The mornings are chilly, but once the sun comes out it gets warm and sweaters and gloves that were necessary in the morning are overkill when its time to walk home. The question is still whether this is it or if “winter” has more in store for us. Other than changing weather we got our boxes that were shipped from Norway at Easter. The kids certainly had a good time rediscovering toys....

The joys of the normal and mundane

If last week was a normal week, then this week has been an exceptionally normal week. No doubt that feeling was aided by Isabelle being sick Thursday night. We woke up to her trying, and not succeeding, to get out of the top bunk of the bunk bed before her stomach decided to empty itself of its contents. It was not a pleasant thing for anyone involved so I will spare you the details....
