Vikings at the Zoo

As I mentioned in my last post, the kids have a break from school. And when it’s term break you can always count on the zoo for entertainment. And don’t you know it! They are having a special event based on How To Train Your Dragon. There is a reason for this though. Victorian Grassland Earless Dragon was believed extinct until rediscovered in 2023. Naturally, this dragon has nothing in common with the dragons of How To Train Your Dragon, but its a good enough excuse to promote the conservation of the Victorian Grassland Earless Dragon....

A (failed) butterfly story

Another term over, another term break is upon us. We have big plans for next week, but for now I need to entertain kids while Anna still has classes. So I scoured the web to find something we could do for the day. Turned out there is a garden downtown that attracts butterflies when ‘spring has sprung’. And since spring is in the middle of “sprunging” I figured this must be a good thing to try....

Ruffey Lake Park

One of the things Melbourne does well is a lot of parks and greenery. And not just downtown, but in all parts of the metropolitan area. So with spring in the air Isabelle and I headed north to Ruffey Lake Park. It is a large park on the northeast side of town not too far away from where we live. Funny enough it is quite popular to use for birthday parties....

Harry Potter: The Exhibition

To round out the week we headed to the Harry Potter Exhibition in North Melbourne. It’s an exhibit that I would call part museum and part interactive experience. It’s not a permanent installation, although it has been here for as long as we have and doesn’t seem to be going away any time soon. Anyway, we all had a blast experiencing key moments in J.K. Rowling’s universe (it also featured some parts from Fantastic Beasts)....

Skipping school to go see some art

Seeing as I have not quite kept up with writing blog posts every week like I intended I thought I would try to write when inspiration hits, or when I feel I have something to interesting to write about. Like how Kassandra and I skipped school yesterday and took the day to view some indigenous art. I will add that Kassandra’s class had a basketball tournament this day. And seeing as Kassandra is not a big sportsperson I felt the $20 would be better spent doing something else....
